En el principio era el sonido, era el ritmo; la sustancia sonora es la materia prima del mundo: éste es el fundamento de El origen musical de los animales-símbolos del profesor Marius Schneider. Etnología, musicología y simbología se conjugan en esta obra que fue definida por Elémire Zolla como la única completamente iniciática del sigloXX. Escrita en lengua castellana durante la estancia del profesor Schneider en Barcelona, fue publicada en 1946.
