Vastos territorios en la literatura y el arte del Siglo de Oro se caracterizan por la exploración de los mecanismos del poder y sus límites, por el ejercicio de la autoridad y sus requisitos, y no menos amplias son en este sentido, las intersecciones entre los ámbitos de la realidad y la producción literaria. Los escritores de la época regresan a estas preocupaciones, con enfoques diversos y matices notables en muchos casos: la obra de Quevedo, Calderón, Tirso de Molina, Mira de Amescua y otros importantes creadores del Siglo de Oro constituyen un campo de análisis privilegiado sobre un tema que nunca pierde su actualidad. IGNACIO ARELLANO, Catedrático de la Universidad de Navarra, ha sido Titular de la de León y Catedrático de la de Extremadura, además de visitante en numerosas universidades de todo el mundo (Duke University, North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dartmouth College, University of Delhi, Pisa, Münster, Toulouse, Oxford). Es director del Grupo de Investigación Siglo de Oro (GRISO) de la Universidad de Navarra, en donde dirige un amplio programa de investigación sobre el Siglo de Oro, que incluye el proyecto de edición crítica de los autos completos de Calderón, o la publicación de La Perinola. Revista de Investigación Quevediana. Es autor, editor o compilador de más 150 libros sobre literatura española, especialmente del Siglo de Oro, y ha publicado más de trescientos artículos en revistas científicas. Es Premio Rivadeneira de la Real Academia Española, Presidente de la Asociación Internacional Siglo de Oro (AISO) de 1996 a 1999 y actual Presidente de Honor de la Asociación. También es miembro de las Academias chilena y boliviana de la lengua, y del Centro para la edición de clásicos españoles. Ha publicado algunos libros de poesía (Vivir es caminar breve jornada, Canto solo para Lisi, Los blues del cocodrilo) y mantiene el blog «El jardín de los clásicos».
